The Southern Boone Learning Garden provides multiple programs for the students of the Southern Boone County School District. In addition to programs directed towards students, the Southern Boone Learning Garden is involved in multiple efforts to increase healthy lifestyle options and the overall health of the community of Southern Boone County.
School-day garden classes
Directly reach 850+ PK-4th grade students monthly per school year with an increasing involvement with the Middle School and High School
Lesson Plans are developed by SBLG Garden Educators are tied to Missouri standards and cover math, science, social studies, writing, and more.
Elementary garden club
Six-week sessions during the fall and the spring semester with 15 kids each session (30 kids/year)
Garden Clubbers learn basic gardening skills (planting, composting, harvesting), nutrition and food systems and eco-art and craft projects
Wide range of special guest volunteers from local farmers to teachers and community leaders
Farm-to-school
In partnership with Opaa!, we are able to regularly bring Learning Garden produce straight into the school cafeterias
